|
Exposure details: Canon Rebel XT (Modified) at ISO800 (23*120s) 46 min plus dark and flat frames
Date Posted: 2/23/2009 1:47:00 PM
Comments: prime focus 8" f5 Newtonian. Acquired with Nebulosity 2. Stacked using DeepSkyStacker. Processed with Photoshop. Much sharper than my previous M42 using SCT. And the modified camera really helps pull out the reds... |
 Witchhead Nebula
|
Exposure details: Canon Rebel XT (Modified) at ISO800 (10*600s) 100 min plus dark and flat frames
Date Posted: 2/9/2009 1:15:00 PM
Comments: prime focus WO SD66. You can definitely see the witchead but I haven't been able to get rid of the gradient without losing the nebula. It was sitting right on the edge of the light dome from Victoria |
 Horsehead Nebula
|
Exposure details: Canon Rebel XT (Modified) at ISO800 (9*300s) 45 min plus darks and bias frames
Date Posted: 12/8/2008 12:43:00 AM
Comments: prime focus WO SD66. First crack at it. I need to do some further processing to remove flats |
 Rosette Nebula
|
Exposure details: Canon Rebel XT (Modified) at ISO800 (16*300s) 80 min plus flats and darks
Date Posted: 11/26/2008 2:12:00 AM
Comments: prime focus WO SD66. First shot of a red nebula with the modified Canon. Tracking was spot on and the focus is, well, excellent! Cropped slightly, processed in Nebulosity 2 and final curves and levels tweaking in Photoshop |

Exposure details: Canon Rebel XT (Modified) at ISO800 (14*300s) 70 min plus flats and darks
Date Posted: 11/19/2008 12:54:00 AM
Comments: prime focus 8'' f5 Antares Newtonian. first shot with Baader UV/IR filter replacing the stock Canon IR filter. I think I detect a difference... :-) |
 M45
|
Exposure details: Canon Rebel XT at ISO1600(10 * 300s) 50 min plus 40 darks and 40 flats
Date Posted: 9/7/2008 9:47:00 PM
Comments: prime focus of my brand new William Optics SD66 refractor. Woohoo! I also finally got a power supply to replace the battery in my camera so I was able to get the 40 darks while I slept. A great night as I also got an hour on M31 and another hour on M33. Once I've done processing them I'll put them up as well |
 Veil Nebula
|
Exposure details: Canon Rebel XT at ISO800(7*120s) 14 min plus darks
Date Posted: 7/15/2008 11:26:00 AM
Comments: prime focus 8'' f6.3 SCT. Another try at the Veil. This time with the 8'' scope. Much better this time. I've recollimated the scope which certainly helped with the focusing |
 M16 (The Eagle Nebula)
|
Exposure details: Canon Rebel XT at ISO1600(11*120s) 22 min plus darks
Date Posted: 7/9/2008 9:27:00 AM
Comments: prime focus 8'' f6.3 SCT. My son has wanted me to take a picture of this one for some time. Finally managed it. Other than the new mounting system, problems I encountered were all with the very low altitude of M16 from my location. Its just barely skating over the tops of the houses and my ovservatory walls |
 Veil Nebula
|
Exposure details: Canon Rebel XT at ISO800(10*480s) 80 min plus flats, darks, bias frames
Date Posted: 6/2/2008 10:49:00 AM
Comments: prime focus 5'' refractor. Finally got some decent weather and the veil turned out much, much better |
 Veil Nebula
|
Exposure details: Canon Rebel XT at ISO800(4*360s) 24 min plus flats, darks, bias frames
Date Posted: 5/28/2008 2:46:00 AM
Comments: prime focus 5'' refractor. Everything went perfectly tonight except for the !@#%& clouds. The scope was pointing accurately without doing a new alignment. Just loaded the saved one and go. Good enough accuracy to put it just outside the FOV of a 12mm eyepiece on initial startup. A quick tweak of the framing, start the exposures and then.... clouds rolling over. First over the Veil and then when I switched to M101 over that. Like some kind of conspiracy preventing me from getting more than 1/2 hour on any one object. I was hoping to do 1.5 -2 hours on the Veil... |

Exposure details: Canon Rebel XT at ISO800 (240*22) 88 mins plus darks, flats and bias frames

Comments: prime focus 8'' f6.3 Schmidt Cassegrain |
 M42
|
Exposure details: Canon Rebel XT at ISO800 (240*6) 24 mins no darks or flats
Date Posted: 12/9/2007 10:03:00 PM
Comments: prime focus 8'' f6.3 Schmidt Cassegrain. Focus and autoguiding both working really well. I didn't have enough time to get as much exposure as I wanted but it turned out really well. The big aperture sure helps. |
 M42
|
Exposure details: Canon Rebel Xt at ISO800(240s*5) 20 min+ darks
Date Posted: 12/1/2007 2:23:00 PM
Comments: prime focus 80mm f5 Apogee refractor. first light using autoguiding. PHD Guiding works like a champ with EQMOD! I could have exposed longer but it looked like I was reaching the sky fog limit and the moon was coming up over the horizon to make things a bit too bright... More sub-exposures would reduce the noise and I need some shorter exposures around the trapezium. Still my focus is getting even better and the autoguiding sure helps. Usually I have to toss about 1/3 to 1/2 the exposures but this time I didn't lose any! |
 M45
|
Exposure details: Canon Rebel XT at ISO800 (60s*38+120s*8) 54 min +30 darks
Date Posted: 11/2/2007 7:17:00 AM
Comments: prime focus 8'' f6.3 Schmidt Cassegrain. The new HEQ5 mount has much better tracking. With the old LX6 mount I could not do 30s unguided exposures. The new mount can manage 120s exposures. And my focussing continues to improve |
 M45
|
Exposure details: Canon Rebel XT as ISO800 (90 sec * 15) 22.5 min +31 darks
Date Posted: 10/12/2007 9:28:00 PM
Comments: prime focus '' f5 refractor A new mount (HEQ5) and the new camera plus much better focussing and its starting to get real results |
 Witch Head
|
Exposure details: Pentax DSLR at ISO3200 (90 sec * 15) 22.5 min
Date Posted: 5/18/2007
Comments: Pentax 135 mm telephoto at f2.8. The colors are wrong and the stars are over exposed but the Witch Head is there! This is one tough nebula to catch. Next time I will do better... |
